There was a time people considered animation a juvenile approach to motion picture story telling. Fortunately for us those days are long gone, in some cases, the movie remakes barely hold water to the original animation. Either way, I’ve found myself gravitating towards Animated TV shows, these are some of my favourites on Netflix.. Outside BoJack, naturally.
F is for Family
Inspired by Comedian Bill Burr’s childhood, F is For Family tells the stories of a middle class family in the 70s. It paints a comical picture of American society at that time, with hints of dark humour to keep you hooked.

Tuca and Bertie
This animated series shows the relationship between two women birds, living in the same apartment building. The hilarious sitcom follows the adventures of their personal life struggles. It’s worth noting that the show will be moving to Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim programming.

This is a TV show about 7th graders going through puberty and it’s geared towards adults, yes, you heard that right. Somehow, Nick Kroll manages to deliver on this bewildering but insightful show by taking us on the journey with these kids, as well as their parents in a way that remind us of our childhood experiences and for those with kids, what may happen in your not so distant future

Avatar follows Aang, the last of his clan – the air nomads. He’s woken up from a 100 year sleep to find that the world is at war, with the help of his 2 friends he begins his journey to learn how to bend all 4 elements, necessary to fight those responsible for wiping out his nation. Released 15 years ago, the reinstatement of this show on Netflix has given it s second life.
The Midnight Gospel
This mind bending adult swim is based in a multidimensional universe, and our main character Clancy. Armed with a faulty multiverse simulator, he hosts a spacecast where he interviews beings from other worlds about to have an apocalypse. This show is based on a podcast by Co-Creator Duncan Trussel.

Based on a video game character C. D from the mid-80s, this show explores Carmen’s backstory. In this rendition, cloaked in red, she takes on a Robin hood role as she works diligently to rob evil powerful corporations.
