Last weekend Wizkid gave us a live performance sponsored by YouTube Originals. More than just a performance and with a reality TV feel to it, the producers succeeded in humanizing a superstar, giving us insight into Wizkid’s personal life throughout the live stream before Wiz hit the stage. Whole hearted content.
The quality of the production of the show was inspiring and sets the standard for artists aspiring to crossover to the global sphere. This level of production, performance and experience is the first of its kind for a Nigerian pop star. He performed songs from his latest album, Made in Lagos, Sounds From The Other Side, and Soundman vol. 1 and even brought out Skepta for “Longtime” off Made In Lagos and played an extended version of certified banger “Bad Energy”.
What was clear from the fashion choices for the show is Wizkid has reached a point where he’s so deep in his bag, anything he does is automatically considered cool. He wore a black outfit – an oversized shirt with a black tee, leather pants with ribbed cuffs, black slip-ons embellished with a gold broach, a pair of Louis Vuitton millionaire sunglasses and enough jewelry to let you know Machala is a star.

Overall, Wizkid delivers an elite and classy performance, supported by amazing backup singers and a brilliant band. The stage design, specifically the lighting programming was absolutely magnificent. It created an engaging ambience that kept viewers in awe of StarBoy. Everything from his vocals to his presence on the stage came off as effortless, and although crowd interactions would have increased the energy levels, we are just grateful to get a concert from Wizkid amidst COVID-19.
